Overcoming Hunger & Poverty.

Fighting for Equality.

My expertise is lived not learned.

I am Barbie Izquierdo, a courageous mother who uses my story to raise awareness and help make substantial legislative changes regarding food insecurity and poverty. Born and raised in North Philadelphia, my family experienced food insecurity firsthand. This searing experience ignited my desperate search for change — a passion to take action so my children would not repeat this experience. As a result, for the past 13 years I have been a community activist and advocate determined to end the cycle of generational food insecurity and poverty.

My story of success and struggle, struggle and success, was featured in A Place at The Table, the award-winning movie about hunger in America

As a recognized and respected voice in the fight against hunger, I have been a keynote speaker at the White House and spoken alongside Joe Biden, when he was Vice President. I have had the opportunity to work alongside some of the most powerful voices demanding an end to hunger in America, from Jeff Bridges and Representative Jim McGovern, to Tom Collichio, Joel Berg, Marianna Chilton and many others.

Google recognizes me as an “American spokesperson”; and I have been featured on BBC World News, CNN, AP, in the Washington Post, and many other print and digital media

Media & Testimonials

If you need a dynamic source who is immersed both in the experience of hunger and advocacy work at the local, state, and federal level, please contact me. I don’t have PR training, talking points, or a slide deck. I have lived expertise. I can tell you what it feels like to put hungry children to sleep at night, not knowing what you will

feed them for breakfast. And I can tell you what we need to do to end this cycle of hunger and poverty.

I would enjoy hearing from you if you would like to do an interview
